Story & Media
History
1912
Founder Fukui Moritaro brewed sake using a well marked with the family crest, on the former site of the old Ogaki-Shinden domain's magistrate office in Fukue-cho, Atsumi-gun (present-day Tahara), founding Fukui Shuzojo.
1948
Fukui Shuzo Co., Ltd. was established.
1952
As business expanded, the 2nd-generation Fukui Moritaro relocated the brewery to a 4,000-tsubo former Imperial Army 18th Regiment site in Nakahama-cho, Toyohashi.
1963
Following the death of the 2nd-generation Fukui Moritaro, his brother Fukui Toshinori became president overseeing shochu operations, while Moritaro's wife Yoshiko became managing director overseeing sake operations at head office, effectively becoming the 3rd generation.
1984
4th-generation Akai Tomohisa developed the compact, hygienic "FOP brewing system," which greatly reduces the heavy manual labor of traditional brewing; it later won the Toyohashi Chamber of Commerce's 14th Science and Technology Award.
2000
To make effective use of the land, a wedding hall was brought onto 3,000 tsubo of the site, and a compact, efficient new brewery building was constructed on the remaining 1,000 tsubo; the wooden family residence was moved 200m and raised atop the brewery to shield it from direct sunlight.
2006
Fukui Tomohiro, designated as the 5th-generation president, became vice president with representative authority.
2015
On March 29, president Akai Tomohisa became chairman and vice president Fukui Tomohiro became the 5th-generation president; following the presidential transition, Oh Koseki was appointed as the new toji on October 15 of the same year.
