Masuichi is produced by the Masuichi-Ichimura Sake Brewery, established in 1755 in the historic town of Obuse, Nagano Prefecture, where it gained early renown through the patronage of the celebrated woodblock artist Hokusai in the late 1840s. In 2000, the brewery revived the traditional wooden-vat brewing method for its junmai and junmai daiginjo lines, and today sells exclusively on-site and online so that the owner can meet customers directly and share the story of how each bottle is made.
