Takeshita Honten was founded in 1866 in Shimane Prefecture, a region historically tied to the origins of sake brewing in Japan, and became known for its Izumo Homare brand. The brewery has a notable connection to former Prime Minister Noboru Takeshita, whose family home was in the same area. Following a change of ownership in 2022, when the business was acquired by the Tabe Group due to the absence of a successor, Izumo Homare has been discontinued as new brands are developed under the revived operation.
