Founded in the first year of the Kyoho era (1716) by the family's 3rd-generation head, Watanabe Kaito (Harumasa), whose given name Kaito became the brand name itself. The brewery has continued for 14 generations and 300 years, developing its own sake-making style suited to the region's cold climate.
