1189
Isawa Iekage, the ancestor of the Isawa family, was appointed Mutsu Province military governor by order of Minamoto no Yoritomo.
1190
After the Battle of Ōshū, Isawa Iekage served as the first Rusushiki (deputy governor) of Mutsu Province.
1267
Isawa Iehiro passed away; his posthumous Buddhist name 'Katsuyama Gyōmyō Daikoji' later became the origin of the brand name 'Katsuyama'.
1608
Date Masamune, the first lord of the Sendai Domain, invited a toji (master brewer) from Nara and established an official sake brewery south of the third bailey of Aoba Castle.
1688
The Isawa family's sake brewing business was founded in the first year of the Genroku era; the brand 'Kasuyama' brewed under the trade name 'Isawaya' was renamed 'Katsuyama'.
1909
Dr. Kanejiro Eda, who developed the sokujo-moto (rapid fermentation starter) method, conducted his first trial of it in Miyagi Prefecture at Katsuyama Sake Brewery.
1956
Katsuyama won first place nationwide at the National Sake Appraisal Competition in 1956.
