History

1897
Around 1897, the government began issuing liquor manufacturing licenses to raise tax revenue after the First Sino-Japanese War.
1899
The company obtained a sake brewing license and began brewing sake in 1899, having previously produced only mirin and kasutori shochu.
1951
In 1951, the business was incorporated as Hakusen Shuzo Co., Ltd.
1991
In 1991, the bottling plant and sales division moved to neighboring Yaotsu, leaving the Kawabe head office as a brewing-only site.
1992
In 1992, the sake brand name was changed from Kuromatsu Hakusen to Hanamikura, though the current site again labels products as Kuromatsu Hakusen.
