The Experience
First Impressions & Atmosphere
Tucked inside Hibiya OKUROJI, Yakigai Akoya Hibiya offers a calm, intimate setting where shellfish takes center stage. The atmosphere feels refined without becoming overly formal, making it comfortable for both a casual dinner and a special evening in Tokyo. Watching each shellfish dish being prepared adds a sense of anticipation, while the warm aromas from the grill gradually fill the room.
About the Dishes
We began with the chef’s assorted live shellfish and grilled shellfish selections, both priced at ¥3,800. The live shellfish highlighted clean, delicate sweetness and firm texture, while the grilled assortment brought out deeper aromas, concentrated umami, and a gentle smokiness. The ¥1,000 dashimaki tamago offered a soft, comforting contrast, with its delicate layers and rich dashi flavor balancing the mineral character of the shellfish.

Sake Highlights
The pairing highlight was Suigyoku Junmai Ginjo Akita Sake Komachi Muroka Nama, served at ¥1,500 per 180 ml. Its fresh aroma, smooth texture, and gentle rice sweetness complemented the natural salinity of the shellfish. The sake remained elegant alongside the live selections and gained extra depth with the grilled dishes, making it a particularly memorable match for shellfish lovers.
