Gunki, meaning military standard or battle flag, is the representative brand of Sekihara Sake Brewery, based in Nagaoka, Niigata Prefecture, a city historically known as Echigo-nagaoka-han. Founded in the mid-Edo period roughly 300 years ago, the brewery has inherited the traditional Echigo brewing soul through successive generations, producing junmai-centered sake characterized by a rich, firm body and clean finish.
