Story & Media
History
1860
Part of the current brewery buildings were constructed in 1860 (Man'en 1), later designated as part of Saitama Prefecture's modernization heritage in 1994.
1873
Founder Wakichi, born in Kakizaki, Nakakubiki District, Echigo Province, independently founded Shimazakiya in Akaiwa Village, Gunma Prefecture in January 1873 (Meiji 6).
1876
In 1876 (Meiji 9), the company leased a brewery in what is now Shimonara, Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture and began sake brewing, naming the brand 'Kindaiboshi' after the sumo term 'kinboshi' (gold star, an upset win).
1883
In 1883 (Meiji 16), the company leased the brewery of Ogino Shichirobei in Yokose Village, Hanzawa District, Saitama Prefecture, later purchasing and rebuilding it into the brewery that stands today.
1954
Maruyama Shuzo Co., Ltd. was established as a company in September 1954 (Showa 29).
1994
In 1994 (Heisei 6), the entire brewery complex, including structures built in 1860, was designated as part of Saitama Prefecture's modernization heritage in recognition of its role in Japan's modernization.
