Matsunoi is produced by Matsunoi Shuzojo, established in 1894 in Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture, in the terraced landscape carved by the Shinano River. Both the brewery and brand take their name from a well fed by a red pine forest, whose high-quality groundwater has supplied the brewery since its founding. Production follows five core handcraft principles including in-house rice polishing, traditional iron-pot steaming, and pressing premium grades through classic wooden sake presses, earning gold awards at the National New Sake Competition every year since 2010.
